Insurance
All students are required to have current health insurance whether through an employer, parent, or the school. |
Student Health Plan
All students are required to have adequate medical coverage in the Rexburg area as long as they have continuing student status. This includes all students off-track. Every semester, at the time of class registration, students will be asked to if they would like to be on the Student Health Plan or if they have an acceptable substitute or if they have acceptable private insurance.
Health Insurance Options for Students
Parents Coverage
• This options is typically best for students who are under 26 years old and have available coverage through their parents
• It is also important that the plan has a network of doctors in the area
Medicaid
• Medicaid is typically a good option for students that claim themselves on their taxes and are below the required income level

If you are in Rexburg, Idaho Medicaid is the only kind of Medicaid that will serve as an acceptable substitute policy. If you want to waive the Student Health Plan with Idaho Medicaid, you will need to send your Idaho Notice of Action letter to healthcenterbilling@byui.edu.
BYU-I Student Health Insurance
• This option is typically best for students that do not qualify for Medicaid
• If a student is claimed by their parent, but do not have an available network of providers through their parents coverage, this is a good option.
Benefits of the Student Health Plan:
$10 charge for all covered benefits in a single appointment, excluding prescriptions at the Student Health Center.
$25 co-pay if seen outside of the BYU-I Student Health Center
$0 Deductible at the BYU-I Student Health Center
$500 Deductible if seen at other facilities
Full-Medical Coverage Nationwide
Your Health Idaho Health Insurance Exchange
• This option is best for the individuals that need coverage and are not eligible for Medicaid or employer sponsored coverage
• This is a great option for foreign students with lower income who will not qualify for Medicaid
